What is the integrative approach?

Integrative Medicine is an approach to care that emphasizes the wholeness of a person’s needs, including our physical, psychological, nutritional, emotional well-being. It is fundamentally patient-centered and seeks to find dynamic and personalized solutions to the health problems our patients are faced with. Taking this approach, we work with patients from the “inside out,” individualizing each person’s care. This holistic approach is able to successfully treat many patients suffering from a variety of symptoms and diagnoses.

Integrative Psychiatry incorporates this approach into the realm of psychiatric wellness. Understanding that each of us is biochemically unique — requiring different levels of vitamins and minerals for optimal function — we know that these biochemical differences affect our brains, our moods, and subsequent behaviors. While Integrative Psychiatry doesn’t ignore the possible role of medication in recovery, we also focus our attention on the nutritional and metabolic abnormalities that may be solved with evidence-based non-pharmaceutical interventions.
